Warships weighing 10,000 tons under construction in Iran
TEHRAN – The Defense Ministry spokesman says Iran is currently constructing warships weighing 10,000 tons.
“In the maritime sector, the ministry is actively pursuing diverse industrial designs for vessels, with plans to construct vessels ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 tons currently in progress,” Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik stated during a press briefing on Tuesday.
He underscored Iran’s great defense capabilities and combat readiness in West Asia, providing critical updates across multiple fronts.
Highlighting the tailored nature of naval defense structures for both the Army and the IRGC, the spokesman noted ongoing warship construction aligned with specific missions.
Addressing the delivery of Karrar tanks to Iranian ground forces, Talaei-Nik assured that production and delivery are in accordance with the armed forces' needs and annual requirements, without any constraints.
He added, “In the drone domain, the ministry is engaged in manufacturing and designing various products. The unveiling schedule is subject to different considerations, and positive outcomes have emerged from combining drone capabilities with missile and defense systems, though specific details are constrained due to undisclosed limitations.”
In terms of drone exports to Sudan, the Defense Ministry spokesman emphasized strict adherence to international regulations, ensuring that export aligns with protective considerations.
On the topic of missile range, Talaei-Nik explained that the range of Iranian missiles is proportionate to potential threats. “While a two-thousand-kilometer range is currently defined, there exists technical capability for further expansion,” he stated.
“Yemeni Resistance uses its own weapons”
Regarding claims about the Iranian origin of Yemeni Resistance groups’ weapons, Talaei-Nik underscored the indigenous nature of Yemeni capabilities, dismissing allegations as a pretext by some Western countries. He suggested that such claims aim to undermine Yemen's achievements.
“Iran, Russia military cooperation has been ongoing even before Ukraine conflict”
Clarifying military cooperation between Iran and Russia, the spokesman noted historical collaboration in both defense and non-defense realms.
Talaei-Nik emphasized that the military cooperation between Iran and Russia is not related to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
“Despite regional developments, including the Ukraine war, there has been no impact on defense relations with Russia. Iran has consistently expressed readiness to assist in resolving the Ukraine conflict,” he stated.
Iranian military experts and engineers have made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment in recent years, contributing to the armed forces' self-sufficiency.
